Actually, I’m in the middle of watching the 2010 one, and finished watching all of the 2011 2v2 one.
Am I the only one who thinks the final battle of the 2011 Grand Prix should’ve been The Saurus and Illmaculate vs. HFK and Charron? They got straight up robbed in their round against PoRich and Diaz. (To be honest, the latter team should’ve gotten knocked out in their first round but got lucky because their first opposing team bombed pretty badly.) Speaking of robbery, how the fuck did the judges think PoRich and Diaz were better than The Saurus and Illmaculate? They seemed to entirely rely on weak rhymes and cheap shots. I know a lot of rap battles function on crossing the line twice, but some of the shit they shot was just low.
(Then again, maybe it’s personal bias against PoRich that makes me even more irritated. The guy’s persona is annoying as fuck. He’s like that dude-bro in the Polo shirts who thinks Natural Light is the best beer and jokes about fucking your female relatives are classy.
Sadly, those jokes are a lot more prevalent in KotD battles than I’d personally prefer, but there’s enough lyrical ingenuity coming from all the rappers I’ve seen thus far to keep me watching the other Grand Prix events—as well as the rest of the videos on their channel.)
Anyway. Watching the 2010 battles. (The 2012 battles are still going on, since they’re spread out over six- or seven- month period, so I’m not in a hurry to watch them.) Just finished the Arcane and Kaliente battle. Good lord, Kaliente’s rhymes and flow were off. Felt like he was just shouting to compensate for how bad his lines were. Even if Arcane choked during the first round, his flows and imagery were better and he was more consistent. Now up is Nat Select vs. McNight. Let’s see how this unfolds.
