Well, that was unexpected.

So… The Way Station, the bar with the TARDIS, is about 4 blocks from my apartment and I go there several times a week generally. I have friends there and usually, during the week it’s quiet(ish) enough for me to sit in my “nook” (back next to the TARDIS) and write.

On Sundays they show movies or TV shows and when Doctor Who is airing, they show the previous night’s episode. Today they were showing last night’s season finale… aaaaand we had some surprise visitors.

Holy cow did everyone’s teeth hit the floor.

I really hope everyone was on their best behavior and Matt and Steven didn’t feel too overwhelmed. Also, apologies to Sue Vertue on behalf of the fan who forgot herself and basically followed Sue into the TARDIS/bathroom. We are all beside ourselves to host you at our favorite bar and hope we weren’t too much for you. But then, I suppose, if you decide to visit a known Doctor Who bar when they are showing the season finale in order to watch the screening, I imagine you know what you’re getting yourself into.

Anyway, thank you so much for coming. It’s personal things like this that make such a HUGE fandom feel so small and special.

Say what you will about Kanye West, but I think we can all safely agree that My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is an amazing record from start to finish.

Also, the last verse of “Blame Game” and the last few minutes that follow (the “Yeezy taught me” bit with Chris Rock) never fail to punch me in the gut.

What is something left out of the final game that you wish had been left in?

Honestly? I kind of just wanted that bit that was in the gameplay trailer where Elizabeth puts on the Abe Lincoln head. It was just an adorable bit of banter that I really enjoyed.

Also, I probably could’ve done with a few more creepy settings involving the Boys of Silence. At the same time, they were pretty fucking creepy, and the last time a game managed to actually scare me was during the Killer Croc section of Batman: Arkham Asylum—to the point where I actually had to pause the game at various times from fear-induced anxiety—so maybe it was better that there was only that one stage with them in it. >.>

I’ve been using Yahoo for my e-mail for years, and one of the things I’ve actually liked about it is that, before they make any changes, they actually let you know that they’re going to make changes and give you the chance to opt-in early—something Tumblr currently doesn’t do.

Not to mention that most of the changes Yahoo has made to its e-mail system are actually functional.

So I mean, y’know. Chill. Plus, according to this article, part of the agreement allows Karp to stick around with Yahoo for at least four years and lets him retain control of how things work on Tumblr. So,y’know, let’s relax.

Part of the reason there’s at least a couple paragraphs devoted to how Booker perceives his decoy in that one fic I wrote is because I shamelessly checked out said decoy while in-game. I’m not even going to front on that one.

And let us not forget this trailer, which is not only beautifully detailed but also—dat ass.

You’re like the only person who can probably begin to help me understand my feelings on the episode, so yes.

Hiding the rest under the tag for people who have yet to watch the episode. And also because it’s really lengthy.

I think right now what I’m trying most to deal with is the notion of Clara being scattered across the Doctor’s entire wibbly-wobbly timeline in various incarnations. Setting aside how it reminds me of the Luteces, I have to admit that I feel kind of…conflicted about it? I mean, it could have been handled much more poorly than it was, but something about it just left me feeling a teensy bit awkward. I don’t know what it is or why.

(And then I had to take an unplanned break in writing this that involved delivering Avon books and cutting myself a big slice of the Whovian Cake—which is still very, very delicious. [The inside is marbleized chocolate and vanilla cake with strawberry jam filling, with buttercream frosting. Hell yes.])

I will admit that I do like that, when it comes down to it, the majority of the Doctor’s backup consisted of women. Divided as I am on Moffat’s execution and portrayal of “strong women,” I do like that the cadre backing him up consisted of Vastra, Jenny, Clara, and River. Even if River’s presence kind of confused me, too, like with regards to their bizarre out-of-time romance. We’re past the point in which River is already dead? Is this the for-real last time that we’re all going to see River? The words they exchanged made it seem so, but considering the way she tends to pop up just about anywhere… But I literally gasped when he grabbed her hand and my heart hurt when he spoke to her and that kiss was just… Credit is due to Alex and Matt for once again succeeding in making me believe that the love between River and the Doctor is not only heartbreakingly genuine, but truly one for the ages in its own way. I’m not even sorry for shipping it.

That said, I really hope Clara and the Doctor don’t have a romance arc. I want them to stay bros to the same intensity that I wanted Elizabeth and Booker to stay bros.

AND WE HAVEN’T EVEN TOUCHED THE SUBJECT OF THE OTHER DOCTOR WHO IS NOT THE DOCTOR BUT MUST BE THE DOCTOR.

I can’t even begin to touch that one yet. We may have to engage in a Skype call for that one. And maybe involve alcohol.

Also, I need a hi-quality download of The Name of the Doctor so I can make some photosets of Clara with Lutece quotes.

I mean, yeah, Booker showcases how dangerous they can be, but when you consider how it might actually work on a normal person—say, a person who likely hasn’t developed some kind of superhuman side effect from jumping across time and space—as Katie and I have, they really aren’t all that bad.

Cards Against Humanity is basically Apples to Apples, but with the humor dials set to “inappropriate” and “fucked up” before being broken off. (It’s rated 17+.) The mechanics are simple. Some of the results are…interesting.

Oh, I didn’t know there was a game for that. Me and my cosplay group just made up our own version of “Dirty Apples To Apples” by both playing cards to make things inapprop, or just simply writing new words on boring cards with sharpie. XD

I must tell them of the existence of this game…

We came up with so many inappropriate ones that I don’t even know where to begin. Although, true to form, the quietest of our group wound up winning and devising some of the more bizarre ones we could think of.

You can actually get the main game for free on the official website and print it yourself at home or pay to have them print it on cardstock at Office Max (which is what a friend of mine did with his set) or you can order the box set for $25USD like another friend did.

Either way, you pretty much have to prepare to hear some fucked-up things during some rounds, but you’ll also probably wind up nearly pissing yourself with laughter at times.

And then there’s the gorgeous swirl of light and I tried really, really hard but all that came to mind was, “It’s a tear!” /o\ Katie, please tell me I was not the only one who thought that so that I don’t continue to feel guilty about linking Infinite and Doctor Who in my head.
Wait. So. Clara. Is. She. I don’t know how to feel about this.
I don’t want to know what anyone else has to say about this yet, whether it’s positive or negative. I don’t want to read anything about what anyone else has to say about this reveal until I manage to turn it over in my head and decide how I feel about it. Because I have some feels about it already, but they’re all abstract.
Actually, I take most of that back. The only person I want to talk to about it at the moment is Katie.
